Reviving the Marseille-Alexandria partnership Print E-mail
The cities of Marseille and Alexandria have just signed a new cooperation agreement, supplementing the first agreement concluded in 1990.
Signed on February 23, 2005 at the time of an official mission by the city of Marseille in Alexandria, this cooperation agreement provides for the exchange of experience and know-how in a wide range of sectors. The first concrete actions of this partnership could be implemented rapidly focusing on urban engineering, the environment, tourism and culture.
Another key event: the cooperation agreement signed the same day between the Bibliothèque de Marseille à Vocation Régionale (BMVR) and Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which was rebuilt and inaugurated at the end of 2002. Representing vast tools for the distribution of knowledge and the promotion of dialogue between cultures, the two libraries intend to start up their cooperation shortly. There are notably plans to organise exhibitions on multi-secular relations between France and Egypt, and more specifically between Marseille and Alexandria.
