Since 1998, employment in the Marseille metropolis has risen 2.4% a year on average, compared with 1.6% nationwide.
• The most dynamic rate of company creation in France :
The average annual rate of net company creations comes out at +2,000 establishments since 1998. The number of companies with over 200 employees has increased 15%.

| Trade: going upscale
With the widespread arrival of new brands, 330 in 6 years, the city centre of Marseille has strengthened the commercial offering of the metropolis and is pursuing efforts to move upscale as part of an ambitious programme to re-qualify public accommodation and areas under the City Project.
